Abercarn got off to a fine start when Leigh Thomas beat the offside trap and
fired past Mark Mayes in the Rhondda goal. The game was very even until half time but the visitors scored immediately after the break through Anthony Phillips (right) and the same player added a penalty after Thomas had been tripped. Last season’s leading goalscorer, Lee Brown, came close to opening the scoring for Rhondda but his shot skimmed the bar. Abercarn ‘keeper Chris Townsend (below) came to his 
side’s rescue with a fine block but with the home side tiring, Dai Thomas and Dean Kendall added two more goals to give Abercarn a convincing 5 - 0 win to put them top of the Champions Cup group A.

Port Talbot 1 Taffs Well 7
After leading 1 - 0 at half time, Taffs Well ran riot after the interval and were convincing winners with goal from Chris Rutherford (2), Carl Lester (2), Mark Bird, Nick Lukaris and Paul Sanderson.

Mathern 1 Aneurin Labour 2
Mathern emerged as narrow winners of this keenly contested game and
were grateful for a goal from Gary Davies (right) to give them the 3 points. Mathern’s manager Jim Edwards was full of praise for Howie Beynon’s performance for Aneurin Labour and was glad to get away with the win and a clean sheet.

Consolation Cup
Nelson Cavaliers 3 Dafen Welfare 0
Dafen made the long journey to Nelson but were unable to pick up any points thanks to goals from Neil Pope, Kevin Jones (left) and Justin Clarkson.
Dafen battled bravely and passed the ball about well but with only a squad of 11 players they were unable to overcome an injury and Nelson grabbed the points to keep them well clear at the top of the group.
Ragged School 1 Swansea 5
Swansea completed the double over local rivals Ragged School with goals from Julian Johnston (2), Richard Gay (2) and Kevin Young. Mark Rowe replied for the home side.

Julian Barsi (right) claimed the ‘Man of the Match’ award with 4 goals and put Th
e Martyrs in a strong position to qualify for the semi finals in this their first season. Danny Sullivan netted a penalty to add to Barsi’s goals. As usual Llantrisant battled hard and on another day might have won but had to be satisfied with goals from Adrian James, Gwy Young and Peter Shilton.
