Merthyr Vets 2 Bryntirion 5
Sunday 16th November 2008
On a tricky surface both sides settled quickly and the game was evenly balanced until five minutes before the break when,Bryntirion's front man Dai Samual's delicately flighted corner evaded both goalkeeper's and full back's attention to drop tantalizingly into the net to make it one nil to the visitors at half-time. The second half was a different story however, as Bryntirion took control of the game with both Ioan Emanual and Steve Dalton's raking passes causing problems for the home side. So, after sustained pressure from the visitors in which play switched from left to right, Joff Wile headed Ioan Emanuel's swinging cross powerfully past the Merthyr keeper for Bryntirion to double their lead. More woe was to follow for Merthyr as Bryntirion were now in full flow with man of the match Joff Wile scoring three more quality goals to put Bryntirion five up and firmly in control. All credit to Merthyr, they never gave up and were justly rewarded with two fine goals in the last five minutes, one from the effervescent Neil Minnett and another from policeman Gareth Price. Special thanks to referee Phil James who had an excellent match and contributed in no small part to an entertaining game played in good spirit.
